How double elimination works

Losing once doesn’t eliminate you. A team beaten in the winners bracket drops into the losers bracket at the matching round and keeps playing; a second loss ends their run. The last team standing in each bracket meets in the Grand Final. It roughly doubles the match count — 16 teams play about 30 matches instead of 15 — so budget roughly double the runtime and staffing.

The bracket reset, explained

The winners-bracket finalist reaches the Grand Final undefeated; their opponent already has one loss. If the losers-bracket team wins that match, both teams now have exactly one loss, so a single decisive match is played to settle it. That extra match is the bracket reset. LeagueSpawn adds it automatically the moment the losers-bracket side wins the Grand Final — you don’t have to remember to schedule it.

Why organisers prefer it

Double elimination is the standard for majors, qualifiers and anything with a prize pool because it is far more likely to produce the genuinely strongest champion. Every team is guaranteed at least two matches, which also matters when players have travelled to attend.
