How to Generate a Tournament Bracket in 3 Steps

1

Enter your participants

Paste your team or player names into the Participants box, one name per line. The generator accepts 2 to 128 entrants. The order you paste them in is the seeding order: line 1 is the #1 seed, line 2 is the #2 seed, and so on. Click Shuffle to randomize seeding for an unranked open bracket.

2

Choose a tournament format

Select Single Elimination, Double Elimination, Round Robin, or Swiss System. The engine immediately calculates the round structure, and for elimination formats it inserts BYEs automatically so that any entrant count — 5, 7, 11, 13, 23 — produces a valid bracket.

3

Run the tournament and share it

Click a team’s name to advance them to the next round; the bracket updates instantly. Type scores directly into each match. When you’re done, download a high-resolution PNG, copy the image to your clipboard, publish live results to Discord, or copy a shareable link that encodes the entire tournament state in the URL.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do BYEs work in a tournament bracket?

A BYE is an empty bracket slot awarded when the number of entrants isn’t a power of two (4, 8, 16, 32, 64). The bracket is expanded to the next power of two and the leftover slots become BYEs. A team facing a BYE advances to round two without playing. LeagueSpawn assigns BYEs to the highest seeds first — so with 13 teams in a 16-slot bracket, seeds 1, 2, and 3 receive the three BYEs. This is the standard method used by ESL, FACEIT, and Battlefy.

How do I make a double elimination bracket?

Select “Double Elimination” in the format dropdown. The engine builds a winners bracket and a mirrored losers bracket. Every team that loses in the winners bracket drops into the losers bracket at the matching round instead of being eliminated; a second loss eliminates them. The two survivors meet in the Grand Final. If the losers-bracket team wins that match, both teams have one loss, so the engine automatically adds a bracket reset — a decisive second Grand Final.

What is a Swiss system tournament?

In Swiss, nobody is eliminated for a fixed number of rounds. Every team plays each round, and after round one teams are paired against opponents with a similar win–loss record. It scales to hundreds of entrants in a handful of rounds — a 128-player field resolves in 7 rounds instead of 127 elimination matches — which is why it’s used for CS2 Majors, Magic: The Gathering, and large fighting-game pools.

What is a Buchholz score?

Buchholz is the standard Swiss tiebreaker: the sum of your opponents’ wins. Two teams on the same win–loss record are separated by who faced tougher opposition, so a 2-1 team that played the eventual leaders outranks a 2-1 team that played the bottom of the field. LeagueSpawn calculates it automatically and shows it as a column in the Swiss leaderboard.

Can I add team logos to my bracket?

Yes. Click any avatar in the Team Logos panel to upload a logo, and it appears in every match and in your PNG export. Teams without an uploaded logo automatically get a colored initials badge, so the bracket always looks finished even if you skip uploads entirely.

Is the LeagueSpawn bracket generator free?

Yes. It’s completely free with no account, no signup, and no entrant limit within the 2–128 range. There is no server: your bracket lives in your browser’s local storage and in the URL you share, so nothing is uploaded or stored by us.

How many teams can a bracket hold?

Up to 128 participants. Single elimination with 128 teams runs 7 rounds and 127 matches; use pan and zoom, or the Fit button, to navigate large brackets comfortably.
